About Us

Our Mission

Performance Kids is dedicated to encouraging physical activity among school-aged children through fun, engaging, non-competitive, educational lessons. Our goal is to promote a healthy lifestyle that will include positive choices and encourage children to participate in physical activity for a lifetime. Children participate in 30 or 60 minute classes that incorporate sport skill development, fitness activities and nutrition. Performance Kids is taught by licensed physical education teachers from accredited university programs. Using best practices, our teachers implement research based curriculum in order to create an effective and engaging learning environment for your children. Our program is designed around a curricular skill themed model. Each lesson will focus on the development of locomotor skills, manipulative skills, and non-manipulative skills. Skill themes are fundamental movements that are later combined and utilized in physical activity settings. Our goal is to introduce children to skill themes that they can later enjoy while participating in sport and fitness activities. The skill theme curricular model introduces children to traveling, chasing, fleeing, kicking, punting, throwing, catching, volleying, dribbling, striking with rackets, striking with bats, striking with hockey sticks and more.

Our Team

Becca Johnson

Founder/Owner

Becca Johnson is a third generation physical education teacher who’s passion for teaching began at an early age. Becca spent most of her childhood in athletic arena’s watching her mom teach physical education while observing both her parents coach sports at many levels. Her athletic success earned her a scholarship to play volleyball at Montana State University where she earned a B.S. in Physical Education. After teaching physical education and health for five years in Colorado’s Cherry Creek School District, Becca returned to Montana to begin graduate school with an emphasis on researching physical activity levels of preschool aged children. She earned her M.S. in Health Promotion from Montana State University in 2012. While conducting her research, Becca quickly realized the need for a distinctive physical education program taught by licensed professionals for preschool aged children. In 2009 she wrote and designed an evidence-based and structured physical education curriculum for a newly launched business she called Performance Kids. The first Performance Kids class was held in Bozeman, Montana in September of 2009. What started with ten kids has now grown to serve over 120 children in the Gallatin Valley per week. Becca is an active member of AAHPERD (American Alliance for Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance) and has been published in Update Plus, an online publication for AAHPERD members. Becca has been asked to present Performance Kids methods and research at the Northwest District annual convention for AAHPERD members this August. While Becca loves teaching children, she also has a passion for pedagogy and speaking to adults about creating effective learning environments for children. She has served as guest speaker to the Bozeman Blitzz Soccer Academy, Bozeman Department of Parks and Recreation and ChildCare Connections. By continuing to design curriculum and train new instructors, Becca plans to expand Performance Kids to cities across the United States. Her goal is to instill a passion of movement and fitness in children so they will be encouraged and confident to maintain a lifestyle that includes physical activity, health and wellness. Becca currently lives in Bozeman, Montana with her husband and two children.
